HELP WANTED--MAKE ARDSLEY RD/CENTRAL AVE...9A SAFER...SURVEY ON MONDAY FROM 8-10 AM
Release Date: June 05, 2008

The Walkability Survey is being sponsored by Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, AARP, and the Livable Communities Connection Project. Westchester Jewish Community Services is coordinating Livable Communities for the Town of Greenburgh and is seeking volunteers to assist with the survey in Greenburgh.

The survey is taking place from 8-10AM on Monday, June 9th. Similar surveys are taking place throughout Westchester County at the same date and time. With input from the Livable Communities Regional Council and Supervisor Feiner, we have selected the following intersections to survey: the corner of Ardsley Road and Central Avenue AND the corner of Route 9A and Sam’s Club. The Ardsley Road intersection is difficult for people to cross and is the location of 2 bus stops. The Sam’s Club area has experienced three pedestrian fatalities within the past year.

We have volunteers who are assisting us, but need several additional volunteers at each site. On the morning of the 9th, the volunteers will be met by the team captain at the site (Judy Fink is the Captain for the 9A site and Linda Schulz is the Captain for the Ardsley Road site). The captain will provide the volunteers with the AARP survey form and will instruct them on the procedures for completing the survey. The results from the surveys will be shared with the proper authorities in hopes that actions will be taken to make these intersections safer. Additionally, it is hoped that the countywide surveys will draw attention to the importance of creating environments that are safely “walkable” for all members of the community.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Judy Fink at (914)761-0600, ext. 340. Your participation would be greatly appreciated!
