From the Department of Taxation and Finance:
Mailings for the 2008 Middle Class STAR Rebate Program will begin the week of September 29, 2008. The Tax Department will be mailing to eligible property owners alphabetically by county followed by the boroughs of New York City. The Tax Department plans to complete our mailings by the end of October.
Property owners eligible for the 2008 Middle Class STAR Rebate Program should hear from the Tax Department no later than the first week in November. You can find the date when the 2008 Middle Class STAR rebates and notifications will be mailed to your area by visiting the Tax Department's web site www.nystax.gov and clicking on the 2008 STAR Rebate logo.
Most property owners will not have to apply for this year’s rebate and will receive their checks automatically. Property owners should not apply unless they have received a notification letter.
If a property owner receives a notification letter, they must apply by December 31, 2008 to receive the 2008 rebate. After receiving the letter, they can apply online using the STAR code provided to them on their pre-printed application.
After the first week in November, if a property owner believes they are eligible and did not receive a check, notification, or other correspondence from us, they should check the Tax Department's website for further instructions.
