Please let your neighbors know that the Greenburgh Energy Conservation Coordinator is available to speak to your group about how to save energy and money in your homes. Topics can include:
- Home Energy Assessment. Want to reduce your energy bills but don’t know where to start? Want to make your home more comfortable in winter and summer? Thinking of home improvements such as new windows, insulation, siding? Before you make any expensive decisions, find out exactly where YOUR home is losing energy dollars and how it could be more energy-efficient—and comfortable. Under NYSERDA’s Home Performance with Energy Star Program, a comprehensive home energy assessment by a contractor certified by the Building Performance Institute will give you precise, expert information which will help you learn what home improvements will give you the biggest, quickest bang for your buck.
- Low-cost home improvement loans to help you finance qualifying energy-efficiency improvements such as insulation, air sealing, efficient heating/cooling equipment, or Energy Star windows and appliances.
- How and where to buy Energy Star appliances that save you energy and money.
- How and where to buy Energy Star lighting fixtures and CFLs (compact fluorescent bulbs) that use up to 75% less electricity than standard incandescent bulbs and can last up to 10 times longer.
- State and federal incentives for installing solar electricity.
- How to reduce the “phantom load” that costs you money even when you think you’re not using any electricity.
