PAUL FEINER

On Thursday, August 18, 2011, at approximately 3:00 P.M., a Town of Greenburgh resident called the Greenburgh Police Department to report suspicious activity near the intersection of Delhi Road and Longview Drive, in the Edgemont section of town. The resident reported that a maroon car with (3) male occupants was driving very slowly passed a residence on Delhi Road. It was known to the caller that the residence was unoccupied at the time. The caller also reported a young male walking on her property, and then entering the described maroon sedan. The vehicle drove away and was further described as having damage to the trunk area, which was tied down with a rope or cord.

Greenburgh Police Department patrol officers responded to the vicinity of Delhi Road and Longview Drive to check the area for the maroon sedan. During this time period, a second Greenburgh resident reported similar suspicious activity, in close time proximity, in the vicinity of Scarsdale Farm Road, near Fort Hill Road, in the Edgemont section of town. A maroon Toyota Camry bearing NY registration, FPJ1680, was observed and stopped by officers at the intersection of Fort Hill Road and Penny Lane. The vehicle was occupied by (4) males, and had damage to the trunk area, held down by a bungee cord. An investigation was conducted of the (4) occupants. Police Officer Richard Maguire checked the homes along Penny Lane for anything suspicious, and discovered an open Fed-Ex box on the front lawn of a residence on Penny Lane. The box appeared to have been torn open with the contents removed. A packing slip with a detailed description of the property was located by Officer Maguire. During the interview, Police Officers J.P. Lara and John DiStefano recovered (3) Perry Ellis Polo shirts from the car, which were allegedly taken from the Fed-Ex box, in front of the Penny Lane residence. A Tom Tom GPS system was also recovered from the vehicle. The GPS was allegedly taken from a vehicle parked on Penny Lane. All (4) males were placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 5th degree, a Class a Misdemeanor.

Greenburgh Police Detectives are investigating this matter to determine if any similar incidents occurred in the Edgemont area. It should also be noted that the alertness of the citizen’s who observed the suspicious activity in their community, and called the police with a detailed description, was instrumental in locating the suspects and recovering the stolen property.
