GREENBURGH STARTING HOLOCAUST LIVING HISTORY INITIATIVE--MONDAY IS HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
Release Date: April 07, 2013

Monday, April 8th is Holocaust Remembrance Day. Some residents of Greenburgh are survivors of the Holocaust. Others are children of survivors. Received an e mail from a resident of Hartsdale a little while ago advising that he is a son of a Holocaust survivor. His late Dad lost his entire family of seven brothers and sisters, both of his parents (grandparents he never knew) and scores of other relatives. All his family but his father perished in the horrors of Auschwitz. Six million Jews perished in the camps.

Alan Hochberg, former President of the Poet's Corner Civic Association, has donated his time to the town during the past four years and has interviewed over 100 veterans of World War II and the Korean conflict as part of the living history initiative. The interviews, each about a half hour long, are aired on public access TV and will be archived at the Greenburgh Library and the United States Library of Congress. The interviews will also be shared with schools in Greenburgh.

Alan Hochberg plans to expand this initiative - will be interviewing Greenburgh residents who were victims of the Holocaust and surviving relatives. We will air the interviews on public access TV and will also archive the interviews and share the stories of holocaust survivors and their families with local schools. We must never forget! We can also air interviews annually during Holocaust Remembrance Day.

If you are a survivor of the Holocaust or a child of a survivor and if you would like to be interviewed, please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com. If you would like to volunteer for our living history initiative on the Holocaust please advise.

PAUL FEINER
