Capital budget hearing rescheduled...phones not working properly at court...councilman's mom passes
Release Date: April 16, 2013

The public hearing on the 2013 capital budget has been rescheduled for Wednesday, evening May 8 after 8 PM. We are holding our annual new residents reception earlier that evening at Town Hall.

The hearing on the capital budget for 2013 was held last Wednesday evening. Members of the Town Board were present to listen to the community. But, no citizen showed up at the time the hearing was taking place. (due to the rain storm). Some people who normally attend Town Board meetings and were unable to be at last weeks meeting on time requested an opportunity to speak on the budget and we want to accomodate their request.

PHONES HAVEN'T BEEN WORKING PROPERLY AT THE COURT-- During the past week I have received phone calls from residents about the phones at the town court. People have been calling the court and no one picks up. The problem is not the court but the phone system. We are trying to have the phone system repaired. Sorry for the inconveniences. If you can't get through to the court and e mail me -I will personally follow up.

SYMPATHIES TO COUNCILMAN FRANCIS SHEEHAN--Councilman Francis Sheehan's mother passed away this weekend. We express our deepest sympathies to Francis and his family. Catherine Sheehan, 97, born in Kilkenny, Ireland, devoted her life to helping others, including spending 50 years as a practicing RN/midwife, putting the well-being of others over her own. She is survived by her 3 boys and their spouses (John and Connie of Middle Village; Joseph and Eileen of Pearl River; and Francis and Millie of Hartsdale, with whom she lived along with her dear friend, Cruz Ortiz, Millie’s mother); 8 grandchildren (Jonathan; Erin, Kathleen, Megan, Claire and Kevin; and Christine and Francis); and countless others she touched during her life. Her husband, John, to whom she was married for 36 years, passed in 1985 and her brother, James Kenny, passed in 2009, at 95.

Her unselfish commitment to caring extended to family and friends as well as strangers, who didn’t remain strangers very long. She was soft-spoken, professional, forthright, compassionate and caring. She taught by her actions, not her words. For example, as a nurse in England during the World War II 1941 Blitz bombings not knowing if the next whistling bomb would be a direct hit, she and other medical staff bravely continued to care for the wounded. For two decades she cared for her father, Joseph Kenny, in the family household until he passed in 1991, age 102. It was her father who raised her with her grandmother’s help after her mother died shortly after childbirth.

There are countless stories of lives she touched. Francis tells of dinner at the Sheehan household when he was a child always being at 5pm, and always after his mother personally delivered the extra plates she made to elderly neighbors. May she rest in peace and be reunited with her husband, brother and the mother she never met.
