 The 3 paid fire districts are independent of town government. Each of the districts have approved a budget for the coming year. The following is a summary of the proposed budgets. Fire Commissioners are elected by residents of the paid fire districts. The commissioners have the authority to approve a budget for their district.  The following summary was prepared by Roberta Romano, Deputy Town Comptroller.

*** Has not responded to requests for info… Statement from Hartsdale Fire district… The Hartsdale Fire District has worked very hard to control expenditures in this current budget. However, due to the large number and value of tax certiorari’s granted by the Town in the past 10 years, the assessed valuation of the Hartsdale Fire District has dropped by $9,504,379, a decrease of 12.6%. Had the assessed valuation remained at the 2004 level, the tax rate for 2014 would have been $145 instead of $166. This decrease in assessment over the last 10 years has been compounded by the required payment of $3,486,492 in tax refunds, which becomes a direct expense to our annual operating budgets. Fairview did not respond yet to request for info. Will forward any respond.
