GREENBURGH NATURE CENTER PROMOTES REUSING SHOPPING BAGS- EXHIBIT TODAY
Release Date: March 01, 2014

1 Camera, 2 Hours: How many bags? Student Exhibit Opening
Where: Greenburgh Nature Center
When: Saturday, March 1st @ 4:30 pm
How Much: FREE Event
The Greenburgh Nature Center is spearheading a county wide initiative called “1 Camera, 2 Hours: How many plastic bags?” This student led documentary campaign is based on the original project by Cary Chapman, a student at Pleasantville High School. 1 Camera, 2 Hours (1C2H) aims to raise awareness about the pervasive environmental issue concerning single-use plastic bags, and encourage the use of REUSABLE SHOPPING BAGS. In just a few decades, single-use plastic bags have impacted land and marine life across the planet, and we anticipate great interest in this student driven initiative.
The Greenburgh Nature Center has been reaching out to the Environmental Clubs, Green-Teams, and art classes from public and private schools across Westchester County. Students who participated in this project spent two hours walking around their communities to count, record, and pick up all the single-use shopping bags they saw littering their communities. The artwork that will be on display is the visual representation of each student’s 2-hour journey. Plastic bags and other litter have become a persistent part of our landscape that perhaps we simply do not “see.”
The project will culminate with an art exhibit at the Greenburgh Nature Center on MARCH 1, 2014 at 4:30 pm. ALL STUDENTS WHO SUBMIT WORK will have their project displayed at this event and have the opportunity to speak about their experience. The exhibit is FREE to attend on March 1st.  The exhibit will be displayed through April 30th and admittance to the exhibit starting March 2nd is included with the GNC admission fee (FREE for Members).
The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve with trails, a pond, gardens, a playground, and outdoor animal exhibits, including a birds of prey aviary.  Our indoor exhibits include a live animal museum with over 100 specimens, exhibit areas focusing on nature and the environment, a greenhouse with botanical exhibits, and a gift shop. We offer special programs for groups of all ages on a wide range of environmental topics, camps and birthday parties, either here or at your location. We also have a variety of volunteer opportunities for all ages and skill levels.
The mission of the Greenburgh Nature Center is to offer inspiring, hands-on environmental education experiences, to foster an appreciation of nature, and to promote sustainable practices.
