$277,273 from fed's for cardiac monitors/defibrillators
Release Date: May 06, 2015

$277,273 from FEMA FOR CARDIAC MONITORS & DEFIBRILLATORS BUT ONLY $44,059.03 FROM NYS AS PART OF EXTREME WINTER RECOVERY APPORTIONMENT--FUNDS TO BE USED FOR ROAD REPAVING

A $277,273 grant from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant program will replace the Greenburgh Police Department’s emergency medical services cardiac monitors and defibrillators.

“"We will replace our old cardiac monitors/defibrillators with new ones, which will bring us above the standard of care.  We are also purchasing four Lucas compression devices which will increase CPR survival rates up to 73 percent, because the machine applies even pressure while the human arm fatigues," said Jared Rosenberg, paramedic supervisor of the Greenburgh Police Department.

The Greenburgh Police Department police officers has certified paramedics and EMTs on our staff.  I'll never forget reading the Gannett newspaper article which stated that Greenburgh is the safest place in NYS to get a heart attack. Our police department is either the only police department in NYS or one of two (have to check) that has EMTs as part of the police force. The department currently has 23 certified Paramedics and 19 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).  The grant was announced by US Congresswoman Lowey.

New York State increased CHIPS funding for road repaving by a small amount. We recently learned that the town will receive only $44,059.03 from NYS as part of their "Extreme Winter Recovery Apportionment."  The town will also receive CHIPS funds for roads --$297,344.64.   I'm disappointed.... It's not a lot of road repaving money. The town will issue a bond and spend $4 million from local tax dollars in 2015 under the proposed capital budget for road repaving. Last year we borrowed 1.5 million for road repaving. Our road conditions need to be addressed. Every local government in NYS is facing the same problems ---bad road conditions. And, I think every municipal official is disappointed with the amount of money that was included in the state budget for winter recovery.

I have urged the NYS Legislature to consider a local road repaving bond act--to provide all local governments in NYS with adequate funding for necessary road infrastructure. As was pointed out NYS is getting a new Tappan Zee bridge. But motorists on both sides of the river may get flat tires driving to and from the bridge.
