SOME OTHER NON PROFITS HAVE CONTACTED THE SUPERVISOR EXPRESSING INTEREST IN CONTINUING TO OPERATE SHELTER IF PET'S ALIVE DOESN'T WANT TO CONTINUE OPERATING FACILITY

FEINER STATES THAT SINCE LAND WAS DONATED TO SHELTER-- PET'S ALIVE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL LAND AND MAKE A PROFIT AT THE EXPENSE OF WESTCHESTER

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner stated that he has received many e mails and phone calls from outraged residents of Greenburgh and Westchester County --alarmed to have heard of the recent announcement that Pet's Alive will be shutting down the Elmsford no kill shelter.   Feiner said that he is sponsoring a meeting Wednesday night, July 22 at 7:30 PM at Greenburgh Town Hall to discuss ways to save the shelter. The meeting location: 177 Hillside Ave, White Plains (off of exit 5, route 287).  This meeting was originally going to be for a handful of pet advocates. But, word is spreading so I decided to open up the meeting to the community.

"I have received e mails from other non profits. They have expressed interest in continuing to operate the shelter if Pet's Alive does not want to continue operating the facility."  I will share details with attendees tomorrow."  Because the land was donated to the shelter - I strongly believe that Pet's Alive, which is based in Middletown, should NOT be allowed to sell the land and make a profit at the expense of Westchester. Westchester residents, animal lovers, community leaders need to strategize and plan an aggressive effort to keep the shelter operating here in Westchester."

Many of the e mails and phone callers expressed shock and anger that there was no warning given to volunteers who devote thousands of hours helping the pets. Shelter supporters were given no chance to help Pet's Alive avoid making this horrible decision to close down the shelter. No transparency. Seems like Pet's Alive wants the money from a sale--and that they are not interested in helping to keep the shelter operating and helping Westchester pet's. Pet's Alive is based out of Middletown.

Feiner, a former Westchester County Legislator, was heavily involved in the efforts in the late 1980s and early 1990s to save the Elmsford Animal shelter and worked on the effort which resulted in the current shelter being built.  "This shelter reminds me of David vs. Goliath. Many have tried to shut down the shelter over the years. But, thanks to the hard working, passionate and dedicated volunteers no one has succeeded so far.
