THANK YOU, GREENBURGH!
Release Date: November 04, 2015

Thank you, Greenburgh!  I appreciate the fact that you re-elected me as Town Supervisor yesterday and promise you that I will work very hard to make Greenburgh an even better place to live. Congratulations to the other members of the team who were also re-elected: Councilmembers Ken Jones, Kevin Morgan, Town Clerk Judith Beville, Town Judges Delores Scott Brathwaite, Arlene Gordon-Oliver and Walter Rivera.

The time to celebrate our victory is over. There is a lot of work that needs to be done during the next two years. And, we can't wait to get started! Among  goals:

MAKING GREENBURGH A MORE PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY TOWN---This year we added 1.6 miles of sidewalks to the town. We will continue that initiative to add sidewalks --especially near schools.  The safety of pedestrians and our children is so important.

CONVERTING THE SHUT DOWN WESTHELP HOMELESS HOUSING INTO AFFORDABLE SENIOR CITIZEN HOUSING--It's a crime that the Westhelp homeless shelter stays vacant. We will work very hard to convert the building to senior housing.  Hope the county cooperates.

FRANK'S NURSERY --We need to clean up the contaminants and finalize the sale to an assisted living facility.

APPROVING COMPREHENSIVE PLAN-- The Comprehensive Plan Committee has worked long and hard on a comprehensive plan. The Town Board will review and adopt a final plan.

PARKING ON EAST HARTSDALE AVE -  Demographics on E Hartsdale Ave have been changing with more young families moving in (and they have more cars). Many residents experience problems finding parking overnight. Would like to come up with a plan that will not cost taxpayers --to address this problem. We need to project demographic needs 5-10 years from now.

SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON JACKSON AVE-- Need to implement recommended safety improvements on Jackson Ave.

COMPLYING WITH TAX CAP AND MAKING GOVERNMENT MORE EFFICIENT--We will work hard to comply with the tax cap and to make government more efficient. We have  hired a firm to conduct an audit of operations of the Public Works department. Last year an audit was conducted of the courts.  Most of the recommendations in the court audit have been implemented.

WORKING WITH GREENBURGH SCHOOL DISTRICT ON A TECHNOLOGY GRANT TO HELP PREPARE STUDENTS FOR JOBS THAT WILL BE NEEDED TOMORROW!  During the summer months I met weekly with leaders of the Greenburgh school district. We're finalizing plans to develop a unique partnership: students will be taught robotics, coding, computer programming (jobs that are needed). Working with colleges to provide participating students with free college tuition.  The goal: participating students will be able to get hired for great jobs after graduation.

SMOOTH CONCLUSION TO REASSSESSMENT PROCESS-- We are concluding our reassessment process of all town properties--the first conducted in 60 years. I hope that this will be a smooth transition.

IMPROVEMENTS IN OUR PARKS--New improvements in our parks are planned: spray area at Massaro, pavilion at AF Veteran pool, repairs to indoor pool at Theodore Young Community Center, new initiatives like the Butterfly exhibit at Greenburgh Nature Center. A new Veterans memorial at DeSanti Park on E Hartsdale Ave.

ON LINE PAYMENT OF WATER BILLS-- Water customers should be able to pay their bills on line.

PLAN FOR NEW POLICE/COURT HOUSE--We need to come up with a plan to build a new police and courthouse.

These are just a handful of initiatives that will be pursued. Again, thank you for your support. And, please feel free to reach out to me anytime you have concerns. We want you to love the experience of being a Greenburgh resident.

PAUL FEINER
