Release Date: November 18, 2015

NEW SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF HEALTH CENTER APPROVED--WILL ENABLE HEALTH CENTER PATIENTS TO WALK SAFELY TO BUS STOPS, RT 119  ....THANK YOU BOB RENINGER, HEAD OF BROADVIEW CIVIC ASSOCIATION!

PEDESTRIAN FATALITY NEAR WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR SIDEWALKS NEAR COLLEGE.

RFP POSTED FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR SIDEWALKS IN EDGEMONT

Progress on an important new sidewalk initiative! The New York State Department of Transportation has issued a work permit for a new sidewalk along the Greenburgh Health Center and the Preserve at Greenburgh frontage with Knollwood Road. The Town Board feels strongly that a sidewalk should be built so that health center patients can safely walk to and from the center to a bus stop and to Route 119.  The Board authorized the hiring of a contractor who will begin construction on Monday, November 23rd (weather permitting). We anticipate that the sidewalk construction will take 2-3 weeks.  If the temperature dips below freezing the completition of the sidewalk could be delayed.

A thank you to Robert Reninger, head of the Broadview Civic Association for his hard work and persistence lobbying for the sidewalk. Bob's effective advocacy helped to persuade town officials of the importance of this sidewalk.

PEDESTRIAN DEATH ON MONDAY NIGHT NEAR COLLEGE..
LACK OF SIDEWALK AND PEDESTRIAN FATALITY HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR SIDEWALK NEAR WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The  pedestrian death on Grasslands Road (in the town of Mount Pleasant near the Greenburgh border)  close to  Westchester Community College on November 17th  highlights the need for sidewalks to be built on streets leading to the Community College -especially on Grasslands, Hillside and Knollwood Roads.
Every day and night students walk on dangerous roads leading to the college. Cars drive up and down these roads --very fast. It's a miracle that there haven't been more pedestrian accidents.  Many students who are enrolled at the Community College rely on public transportation to get to and from school and walk on these busy NYS roads. When it is dark at night it's very difficult for people to see them.
The  town of Greenburgh recently embarked on an initiative to make the town more pedestrian friendly. We are committed to spending significant dollars each year on the construction of new sidewalks -especially near schools. However, the expense is going to be enormous. There are many streets within the town that need sidewalks. We are going to include funding in our capital budgets and seek federal/state grants.
It's my hope that NYS will partner with local governments by funding new sidewalks near schools and colleges--especially on NYS owned roads. Let's make NYS pedestrian friendly. One fatality is too many. No excuse for NYS to do nothing when they are on notice that their roads leading to the college are too dangerous for pedestrians to walk on.

SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION IN EDGEMONT

Overview

The Town Board of the Town of Greenburgh aims to improve the sidewalk network for the safety of children, parents and the public walking to and from schools, places of public transportation, and within the neighborhoods of Greenburgh by constructing or improving sidewalks in many areas of the Town.  In support of this goal the Town commissioned a Sidewalk Feasibility Study for specific routes in the vicinity of some of the schools.  The study concluded sidewalks could provide a benefit in the area studied.

The Town seeks to retain a Professional Engineering Consultant to provide professional design services for the installation of sidewalk along the Town right-of-way in selected areas.    The subject professional services shall involve all surveying and design services necessary to provide construction plans and documents for municipal bidding and construction or as otherwise noted in the relevant section of the RFP directions.  This Request for Proposals (RFP) is intended to help the Town select a qualified and experienced Consultant to provide the survey, design, and related services to result in the construction of sidewalks along the roads designated.

Proposals and attachments must be received no later than 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015, and should be addressed as follows:
