3 years to build ashford ave bridge..43 hrs to build bridge in china..14 days in Iowa
Release Date: March 14, 2016

3 YEARS FOR ASHFORD AVE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION..43 HOURS FOR BRIDGE TO BE REPLACED IN CHINA...10 WEEKENDS TO REPLACE BRIDGE IN MASSACHUSETTS...14 DAYS TO REPLACE BRIDGE IN IOWA

WHY???

GREENBURGH SUPERVISOR WANTS COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSIONER OR COUNTY EXEC TO EXPLAIN...

It will take nearly Westchester County three years to build the Ashford Ave bridge (work starting todayMonday, March 14)...
It took China 43 hours to build a bridge...(SEE VIDEO)
It took Iowa 14 days to build a bridge (see links)...
It took Medford, Massachusetts ten weekends to replace 14 bridges.

WHY?  I have written to the County Executive and will be reaching out to other county officials. Why are Ardsley/Dobbs Ferry/Greenburgh motorists going to be inconvenienced for almost three years when major bridge reconstruction in other states and in other communities around the nation and world takes much less time?

I think that there should be an investigation of our bridge construction projects and compare what we do to other bridge projects.

This is a video link of how China built a bridge---work done in 43 hours, not 3 years!https://www.facebook.com/CCTVAmerica/videos/892122587549681/

I-93 in Medford, Massachusetts was able to replace 14 bridges in Medford over the course of just 10 weekends between June and August 2011. Mass DOT used several innovations, a detailed traffic management plan and a comprehensive communications plan to complete the bridge work safely, efficiently, economically, and in a manner that caused the least possible construction-related impacts and congestion. The project was completed on-budget and ahead of schedule, replacing all fourteen bridges in less than a year. Using convention methods this project would have taken at least 4 years and during those 4 years drivers would have had to endure long term lane closures.

Friday, September 26, 2014 -

When the Iowa Department of Transportation announced in 2011 that it would replace a state-owned bridge near the rural town of Council Bluffs, residents braced for the projected six-month project and the 14-mile traffic detour that would accompany it. Yet a mere 14 days later, a new bridge had already been installed.

Though more than 90% faster than initially estimated, the project could have been even shorter, says Bala Sivakumar, the director of special bridge projects at infrastructure solutions firm HNTB Corporation.

“We could have compressed that down to a week, but the state left it to two weeks,” Sivakumar says. “They felt that the two weeks was easily manageable for the local community.”

Last week I wrote to the County Executive and other public officials suggesting that the county place webcams around downtown Ardsley and around surrounding neighborhoods so public officials, developers, consultants can watch in real time what's happening to the Ardsley/Dobbs Ferry/Greenburgh community during this lengthy bridge construction project.  WEBCAMS are used around the metropolitan area and around the world and can help motorists avoid traffic jams. A webcam can also be helpful during the review process of the Jefferson application because it will provide town officials, the Jefferson developer, our traffic consultants with an honest assessment of what is happening traffic wise. Webcams can also help first responders more quickly respond to emergency situations.

PLEASE TAKE VIDEO'S OF YOUR TRAFFIC EXPERIENCES SO I CAN SHARE THE VIDEO'S OF THE ANTICIPATED TRAFFIC PROBLEMS WITH OTHER OFFICIALS.
