FOOD SCRAP RECYCLING PROGRAM TONIGHT....INFO ON EXCITING INAUGURAL IRINVTON TOWN HALL THEATER STAGE DOOR PLAYRIGHT FESTIVAL ON NOV 11 AND 12
The Food Scrap Recycling Program is convening its first committee meeting TODAY Tuesday, October 24th at 7pm in the multipurpose room at Anthony F Veteran Park. We will show the group the drop-off site in the Anthony F Veteran Park parking lot and announce the program launch date. Our friend, Ron Schulhof, of the Scarsdale Food Scrap Recycling Program will join us to speak to their program's successes. We will review our program, how residents can participate, and plan outreach and education events throughout the Town.
Food Scrap Recycling Program Background:
Consumers and the general public are increasingly conscious about how their food is grown and where it ends up. Approximately 40% of all food produced in the United States is wasted and the pollution from that waste accelerates climate change.
In partnership, the Town of Greenburgh and the Greenburgh Nature Center will establish a municipal food scrap recycling program this year. It will reclaim the value of food waste through composting while reducing the economic and environmental costs associated with treating food scraps as garbage.
The drop-off site will accept all food including; meat, dairy, bones, oil, fish, fruits, vegetables, bread, rice, pasta, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea leaves, and food soiled paper.
Here’s how it will work: residents of Greenburgh will empty their individual organics bin into the town's commercial toters at Anthony F. Veteran Park. From there, the food scraps will be carted to a commercial compost facility where they will be processed into nutrient rich, carbon sequestering soil. That compost will help grow plants in gardens, parks, and farms.
The Inaugural Irvington Town Hall Theater Stage Door Playwright Festival received over 70 submissions of original plays, many by local playwrights. We have selected 8 amazing and diverse selections of new plays that come fresh from the playwright and straight to the heart! This will be an intimate and exceptionally exciting experience, to witness a playwright's work in progress, read and performed by professional actors. Following each block of plays, a moderator will host a talk-back where audience member can truly become a part of the artist's work process, as they provide their perspective and feedback.

Theater Festival - Irvington Town Hall Theater

The Irvington Town Hall Theater was built in 1902 in the Classic Revival Style. Designed by A. J. Manning and patterned after the Ford Theater in Washington, DC, the Theater is a multipurpose concert hall/music theater located on the entire third floor of Town Hall in downtown Irvington, New York. The 432-seat theater features an orchestra, mezzanine, balcony and six charming gold leafed boxes, a proscenium stage and thrust complete with five backstage dressing rooms. Theater patrons sit in an intimate ambiance. Gleaming white columns and Ionic capitals set off the warm ivory interior. The walls are wainscoted in warm oak. Victorian chandeliers and sconces were copied from the originals, during the restoration to its original elegance in 1980. A plush red stage curtain and a forty-two foot high skylight complete the setting. Architecturally significant, the Theater is listed on the national Register of Historic Places.
