HOW GREENBURGH IS ADDRESSING THE OPTIOD CRISIS..FREE ONE WEEK CAMP FOR HS STUDENTS ON CYBERSECURITY
Release Date: April 25, 2018

Yannick Longolius is a resident of Greenburgh and a student at Westchester Community College. This semester Yannick worked on a project for a multimedia journalism class about the Opiod crisis. He was inspired to focus on this problem after reading an article on the town of Greenburgh website about an incident at Michael’s where police officers saved the lives of two people.

Yannick decided to try to find out more about how local communities deal with the challenges of the opiod crisis.

He recently interviewed our police officers and para medics involved in dealing with the crisis.  The video below covers the kind of challenges the town of Greenburgh faces in dealing with the problem. The departments involved. How local governments are collaborating. The support we receive from state and federal governments. And much more….

I was impressed with how hard Yannick worked on the project and think you will find the you tube tape very interesting.  Hope that Yannick gets an A on his assignment!

A FREE CAMP –CYBERSECURITY OFFERED BY PACE UNIVERSITY TO 30 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Paulin Mosely DPS (PI) is a Professor of Information Technology at Pace University. She is also a member of the Greenburgh Technology Committee. Pauline advised me that the college is offering  High School students who are interested in cybersecurity the opportunity to attend a free camp from Monday July 30th thru Friday August 3rd from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.  Hot breakfast, lunch and snacks will be offered. This is open to any high school student. Application can be found on : http://www.pace.edu/seidenberg/special-events/gencyber/students-camp

Pace University received a $65,962 grant from the GenCyber, which is a cybersecurity outreach program sponsored by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation to expand the workforce pool of cybersecurity professionals. Pace’s project, Camp CryptoBot, is focused on a summer camp.

The goal of this education and cybersecurity pipeline restoration initiative is twofold: (1) to promote the study of cryptography utilizing  SeaPerch (underwater robot) and mini-drones as a platform; (2) to expand this sub-population to consider cybersecurity occupations, which is one of the strengths of the Seidenberg School.

Pace is thrilled to offer this FREE one-week interactive and mission-driven camp to 30 high school students in the New York Metropolitan area, with an emphasis on young women and minorities.  The camp will provide students with mentorship and diverse role models and help them form communities of young cryptography experts..
