crash north of Lawrence Street...need for a bus stop at Rivertowns Square
Release Date: May 29, 2018

During the past year the Greenburgh Human Rights Committee, village of Dobbs Ferry, and safety advocates have been pushing the county and developers of Rivertowns Square shopping center (across from the Saw Mill River Parkway at the Lawrence Street intersection) to install a bus stop inside the shopping center  complex so employees, students and people who don't have cars don't have to walk across the dangerous parkway. In 2014 a pedestrian lost their life trying to cross the parkway. The county administration is reviewing the request. There are shops, a movie theater, restaurants, a hotel, apartments and a supermarket at this location.

Although no pedestrian has lost his/her life since 2014 crossing the parkway - I believe that the need for a bus stop is enormous. I have seen cars crossing the yellow light - have observed pedestrians carelessly crossing the parkway.

Tonight according to lohud.com there was a 5 car accident just north of the Lawrence Street intersection in Dobbs Ferry according to the NYS police. Fortunately, injuries were only minor. But our luck may not continue without a bus stop.  We're fortunate that our County Executive cares and is looking into the possibility of installing a bus stop at this location.

FROM LOHUD.COM..

A five-car crash on the Saw Mill River Parkway south is causing traffic delays this evening.

Injuries were reported to be minor for those involved, according to the state police, but the crash - just north of the Lawrence Street intersection in Dobbs Ferry - is drawing two trucks to clear the scene.

As of shortly after 6 p.m., it could be another 20 minutes or so before the area is cleared, according to the police.
