Message from President of Children's Village which is housing immigrant children
Release Date: June 22, 2018

Message from President of Children's Village which is housing immigrant children....rally tomorrow (Sat) in Hastings co-sponsored by Greenburgh Human Rights Committee re :immigrations policies...are you stressed (free yoga Saturday)...meditation at library weekly in July...new business opening tomorrow morning in Irvington

I received an  e mail from the President of Children's Village which is housing immigrant children. If you want to speak out against the current immigration policies you are invited to attend a rally tomorrow.

The Greenburgh Human Rights Committee is co-sponsoring a vigil tomorrow (Saturday) at noon at the Hastings VFW Plaza, 558 Warburton Ave Hastings against child abuse, detentions and deportations.

Paul,

I wanted to write to you directly as a supporter of the Children's Village. As you may be aware, Governor Cuomo announced on Tuesday that CV is housing immigrant children who have been separated from their parents. A small number of older children have been placed with us as part of the Unidos por un Sueno (United for a Dream) program that CV has been proud to provide since 2004.

These children are being cared for in the same manner as we care for all of the children in the program. The focus of the US program is to reunify children with their families, not to separate them. We pride ourselves on that, and it will continue to be our primary objective for all children who enter the program.

The days since the announcement have been overwhelming, but mostly in an extraordinarily positive way. As the news spread, phone calls from friends who want to help have been pouring in. The mayor of Hastings-on-Hudson (where part of CV’s campus resides) helped to organize a group who started a GoFundMe page. Individuals and groups are making welcome kits for the children. Facebook has lit up with people who want to help.

Many of you have asked if you can volunteer. Unfortunately, we are not permitted to have volunteers with this program for confidentiality reasons. However, if you would like to volunteer with the many children we have in foster care, click here.

There is much misinformation circulating and we want to give you the facts.

  • We have been caring for unaccompanied minors since 2004. The children separated from families are considered “unaccompanied”; they are a small percentage of the children we currently have on our campus.
  • The ages are 12 to 17. We are not a “tender care” facility.
  • All staff are bilingual and many come from the same countries the children do.
  • Our first job is to find their families and get the kids on the phone with them. The Office of Refugee Resettlement helps us with that.
  • Children live in beautiful cottages with comfortable living rooms, dining rooms, beds, etc.
  • Children receive education, recreation, medical care, counseling, and much more.
  • Children spend time in the Lanza Recreation Center, which has an indoor pool, a fitness facility, barber shop, Hawks Nest Café, and gym.
  • Further information about the program can be found on our website.

As I said during an interview with NBC, it is wrong, immoral, and never appropriate to separate kids from parents needlessly. The trauma is difficult to quantify but we know it is severe and, for many, permanent. Our position on family is non-negotiable. (See my testimony to the Senate explaining our beliefs, with video here.) But we know how to care for children and are happy that we can be there for them.

With sincere gratitude,

Jeremy Kohomban

President and CEO

New business college nannies, sitters and tutors in Irvington opens Saturday

College Nannies, Sitters + Tutors of the Rivertowns Announces Grand Opening

CNS+T Rivertowns’ Administrative Office and Learning Center Is Now Open for Business

IRVINGTON, N.Y.— College Nannies, Sitters + Tutors (CNS+T) of the Rivertowns

announces the opening of its Administrative Office and Learning Center. Located at 10B

South Broadway in Irvington, just off of Main Street, the storefront will serve as the

company’s administrative office, as well as offer a location to host its growing tutoring

services. The grand opening for the location is part of the community’s “Celebrate

Irvington” festivities and is set for June 23, 2018 from 10am-noon. There will be free,

temporary tattoos for children and light refreshments served.

Launched in August 2017, College Nannies, Sitters + Tutors of the Rivertowns offers

top-level, comprehensive childcare solutions geared toward children ranging from

infancy through high school seniors. The company calls its nannies, sitters and tutors

“Role Models”. The idea is that these trusted and trained caregivers provide children in

their care a strong, positive role model who in turn contributes to the child’s success in

preschool, elementary school, high school and beyond. These role models are vetted,

given a background check, certified in first-aid and CPR, and trained to offer a highquality,

dependable experience for families.

CNS+T Rivertowns’s high quality and trusted childcare is arranged straight from your

smartphone via its ‘MySitters’ app. The MySitters app makes booking a sitter incredibly

easy. Simply input the time window for when a sitter is needed and the sitters available

for that time will appear in the app. One more touch and now a sitter is booked. The

MySitters app has proven to be a real game changer for busy families in the area.

quality, dependable childcare solutions in lower Westchester County for almost a year

now,” says co-owner Marnie Adams. “I’m excited to open our Administrative Office and

Learning Center in Irvington so that we can expand our services to include tutoring as

well as to better serve our customers. Our customers appreciate the opportunity to meet

our team in-person. While other web-based childcare solutions can appear to be faceless

brokers, CNS+T Rivertowns combines the convenience of the latest app technology with

a focus on customized care. We pride ourselves on personal touches that provide a truly

premium experience for busy Rivertowns families.”
