FIREWORKS CELEBRATIONS AT... former Greenburgh/Hastings resident and the head of my transition team
Release Date: July 01, 2018

This is a link to firework celebrations being held in Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. The town of Greenburgh will hold our fireworks celebration on July 21 at 9 PM during family day at AF Veteran park.

Greenburgh has played a role in the lives of many highly successful leaders. If you know someone who lived in Greenburgh during their student days and has become an international, national or state-wide leader in any field, please advise so we can share the news...

When I first ran for Greenburgh Town Supervisor a young man from Hastings on Hudson offered to volunteer and serve as  my campaign manager.  Phil was active in the community, had also worked with Congresswoman Nita Lowey.   He was brilliant, organized and knew how to motivate people.  After winning my election as Supervisor in 1991 Phil Weiser stayed on volunteering his time during my transition from a Westchester County Legislator to Town Supervisor. Earlier this week Phil Weiser won the Democratic primary for Colorado Attorney General in a hard fought and close primary election against a well known elected official. His opponent conceded yesterday.   Phil ran a very positive campaign -refusing to criticize his opponent during the primary battle.

Phil, the son and grandson of Holocaust survivors, went to Law School after working with me and then went on to serve as a Law Clerk at the United States Supreme Court for Justices Byron White and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He  served in President Clinton’s Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division before returning to teach as a professor at the University of Colorado Law School. There, he founded the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, litigated civil rights cases, co-chaired Governor Bill Ritter’s Innovation Council, and served on President Obama’s Transition Team, overseeing the Federal Trade Commission.

He had the honor of serving in the Obama Administration as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, where he oversaw complex antitrust investigations, worked to strengthen the review of anticompetitive mergers, and spearheaded an effort to promote competition in agriculture. He also served President Obama in the White House as Senior Advisor for Technology and Innovation at the National Economic Council; in that role, Phil spearheaded what became a bipartisan effort to increase access to wireless spectrum and enable the deployment of an interoperable wireless broadband network for public safety.

After returning to Colorado, Phil led the University of Colorado Law School as its Dean from 2011-16.

Over the years I have worked with many other smart young people. Our student interns, students the Town Board honors at many Town Board meetings, and activists also have the potential to become national, state and local leaders in the not to distant future.  Congratulations Phil Weiser, former Greenburgh resident, on your impressive win. May you continue to inspire a new generation of future leaders to get involved.
