HARTSDALE VETERANS DAY CEREMONY TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY AT 2 PM  DESANTI PARK

GREENBURGH LIVING HISTORY TAPES OF ALMOST 150 VETERANS TO AIR NON STOP ON PUBLIC ACCESS TV BEGINNING TONIGHT TO TUESDAY MORNING

Girl Scout tag sale tomorrow

This past week our Indian community celebrated Dwali--the festival of lights  (triumph of light over darkness, good over evil)

The annual Veteran’s day ceremony will be held on Sunday, November 11 at 2 PM. Many government offices are closed on Monday, November 12th but the actual day of Veterans Day is November 11th and the town of Greenburgh’s veterans committee opted to hold the ceremony on the correct day.

The ceremony, to be held at DeSanti Park, across from the Hartsdale train station, will feature remarks from our local Veterans. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have been invited to participate.

According to  Hugh McAuley this event is important because “ Veterans Day is the day we Honor our Nation's True Heroes"   “

The town also will be airing almost 150 living history interviews of veterans of World War II and the Korean Conflict on Greenburgh cable TV stations (optimum channel 76 and Fios channel 35) from Friday night (tonight)  to Tuesday morning in recognition of the contributions our veterans have made.  These interviews were conducted in recent years –each interview is about half an hour long and features footage from the wars the veterans participated in.   One can also watch individual living history  interviews by clicking on to the following link:

The veterans committee meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 9:00 AM in the Greenburgh Town Hall. Veterans who would like to get involved are welcome to attend.

GREENBURGH'S INDIAN COMMUNITY CELEBRATED DWALI THIS WEEK

Greenburgh has a very large Indian community. And, this week the Indian community around Greenburgh and around the world celebrated the Festival of Lights- the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.  We are thankful to our Indian community for their continued contributions to our town. And wish them a great year.
