2 openings: student representative, parks & recreation advisory board
Release Date: February 19, 2019

Students are being given a greater voice in the decision making processes of government. Today's students will become tomorrow's leaders!  And, we want to prepare them for their leadership roles.

A few weeks ago I interviewed Charu Aggarwal, Elizabeth Hobson (Dobbs Ferry Librarian) and Mijyo Sasaki on my WVOX radio program. Mijyo is a student at Dobbs Ferry High School and is the student liaison to the Dobbs Ferry Library Board - attending & participating at meetings of the Library Board. She also participated in helping to organize a terrific program the Dobbs Ferry Library sponsors - the Dobbs Ferry Cultural Explorer Series. I think you would enjoy listening to her, Charu Aggarwal, a member of the Library Board & a leader in the effort to encourage residents to appreciate different cultures  and Elizabeth Hobson speak about the program (link below).

The Greenburgh Police department has two student representatives on their board:

Charlotte Brown – Edgemont HS

Cailla Cruz – Woodlands HS

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for the unincorporated section of Greenburgh has two openings for student representatives. If your son or daughter would like to serve on this important advisory board please advise. The Board meets once a month and makes recommendations to the Town Board on parks related issues.  Please send resumes to gbyrne@greenburghny.com with a copy to townboard@greenburghny.com.

Over the years we have tried hard to encourage students to get involved in government. We invite students to host their own cable TV programs, many students have made presentations at Greenburgh Town Board meetings and we have an internship program. The goal: to prepare our young people for future leadership positions.

PAUL FEINER
