STATE TO IMPROVE SAFETY ON 9A
Release Date: November 12, 2002

ll/ll GREENBURGH PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS, AMBULANCE CORP MEMBERS AND POLICE BE GIVEN ACCESS TO

TOWN POOL & RECREATION PROGRAMS EVEN IF THEY DO NOT RESIDE IN UNINCORPORATED

GREENBURGH (PROVIDED THEY SERVE THE TOWN)---Town Board to vote on ll/l3. I

support recommendation. Volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, risk their

lives for residents of unincorporated Greenburgh. This will help the

departments recruit volunteers and will enhance safety of residents of the

town. If there are medical emergencies at the pool we will have more users

who are trained in CPR.

STATE TO IMPROVE SAFETY ON 9a--3 teenage motorists have died on 9A since

l996. The state has responded to town requests to upgrade safety on the

street. They will be placing high friction pavement and new flashing signs on

on the street. And will be reducing speed limits to 30 mph on the twisting

section, 40 mph on the straightaway. I believe that this is a step in the

right direction but not enough. I believe there should be one speed limit on

the entire stretch of the road. There are currently 4 different limits.
