10607 RESIDENTS VOTE NO ON NAME CHANGE--VOTE CLOSE
Release Date: May 08, 2003

The United States Postal Service has advised that 52.3% of all residents of the l0607 who voted on a proposal to change their address from Greenburgh to White Plains voted no. 2620 surveys were sent to the l0607 zip codes. l351 responses were received. The response rate was high; 51.6%. YES VOTES: 644. NO VOTES: 707. The Post office said they consider this a dead issue and will not entertain efforts to revive it in the future. Although I had hoped that residents would vote yes, this is democracy at its best. The people were given a chance to express themselves. Many residents had asked for the change. The town tried being responsive. However, the majority -when given the opportunity to express themselves- did not like the idea (inconvenience, some people said that Greenburgh is not as well known as White Plains,etc..) Thank you for participating! PAUL FEINER
