Shopping cart enforcement update
Release Date: September 03, 2003

On June 28th, 2000 the Town Board adopted a local law regulating the abandonment and misuse of shopping carts. All companies and/or retailers received  the legislation and had until June 28th,2003 to implement all the requirements. The goal: to prevent shopping carts from leaving the shopping center area --creating hazardous road conditions. Informational meetings were held. Follow up letters sent out. Retailers that have not yet implemented measures required to help prevent shopping carts from being removed from their premises or those that have not sought relief from implementation will now get fined, according to the Police Chief. Under section 420-11, "each day a violation continues shall constitute a separate offense."
