Neighborhood accepts homeless, free SAT course
Release Date: September 11, 2003

The Mayfair Knollwood civic association voted last year to support the continued operation of WESTHELP, a 108 unit homeless shelter. In return, the town agreed to contribute funds received from WESTHELP and the county (rent payments) to the Valhalla school district and Fairview fire department. On Wednesday evening the Greenburgh Town Board voted unanimously to release funds to the Fairview Fire department and Valhalla School district. The school district will use some of the funds they receive --providing Greenburgh students who attend the Valhalla schools with FREE SAT PREPARATION COURSES---a $1,000 per student value!  Everyone benefitted---the homeless continue to get the services they need...the county did not have to find new locations to house the homeless...residents who live near the homeless shelter are recieving quality of life enhancements.
