I am proud to announce that Nicole Brooks of Woodlands High School was honored by the NY Knicks with the very prestigious Dave DeBusschere Award. She received the award at Madison Square Garden during half time Monday. This award is only given to a few outstanding students who have shown real leadership qualities in academics, athletics and community service.
I have invited Nicole to attend tonights Town Board meeting so we can also honor her for her accomplishments and wish her continued successes. She is a an example of the kind of young person we can all be proud of at Woodlands High School and the Theodore Young Community Center. Her parents should also be commended for supporting Nicole and helping to raise such a wonderful future leader in the Greenburgh community.

The Knicks will honor Nicole Brooks of Woodlands with the Dave DeBusschere award in a presentation at tonight's game against the Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden.
The award recognizes Brooks for "excellence in the classroom, on the basketball court and in the community, and for having exemplified the same heroic characteristics that Dave DeBusschere carried throughout his life."
DeBusschere's son, Peter, will present the award.
Brooks earned a berth on the Woodlands varsity as an eighth-grader. Now, the 10th grader is co-captain and a starting guard. She also takes honors classes and has a 3.76 grade-point average.
DeBusschere played 12 seasons in the NBA, including six with the Knicks, winning championships in 1970 and 1973.
His number 22 was retired to the Madison Square Garden rafters in 1981, and DeBusschere was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983. He died in 2004.
