LIBRARY BD RECOMMENDS SUNRISE
Release Date: February 25, 2004

The Greenburgh Library Board has recommended that the Town Board sell the old Town Hall building to Sunrise Assisted Living. This will generate about $2.75 million in revenue to the town, between $250,000-$300,000 a year in taxes. The taxes over the next 30 years (life of the bond) will be about $9 million dollars. Sunrisewill reduce the costs of the library expansion for the town. Among the negotiation items are site improvements (which could save the town over three quarters of a million dollars). In addition, expansion of the library could result in additional cost savings—coordinated project management/architect and engineer services. Another advantage: a more attractive gateway to the library complex. An assisted living facility will provide the library with a unique opportunity to promote more intergeneral programs. The Town Board is currently reviewing the Library Board’s recommendation and a vote to designate Sunriseas the preferred developer could take place on Wednesday, March 24th at the Greenburgh Town Board meeting.
