WATER CONSERVATION ADVISORY FOR THE TOWN OF GREENBURGH
Release Date: September 12, 2011

Please be advised NYC DEP is again experiencing problems with the Catskill water system and is shutting down the aqueduct soon.  Greenburgh is asked to provide water to our neighboring municipalities as our source, the Delaware, is unaffected by the problem.

The water from Greenburgh is and remains safe to drink.  We ask our customers to conserve so we can provide drinking water to other municipalities during this emergency.

WATER CONSERVATION ADVISORY FOR THE TOWN OF GREENBURGH and the VILLAGES OF ELMSFORD, IRVINGTON, SLEEPY HOLLOW and TARRYTOWN

Residents strongly advised to conserve water now through Wednesday morning

Residents, businesses and industrial customers of the Town of Greenburgh, and Villages of Elmsford, Irvington, Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown are asked to conserve water while the Town provides water to Greenburgh customers as well as other surrounding water districts that would otherwise not have drinking water during the next several days due to capacity limitations caused by an emergency shut-down of the Catskill Aqueduct by New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The Catskill Aqueduct is a major water source for several Villages around Greenburgh.
Customers shall conserve water by not watering lawns, washing cars and by limiting other non-essential uses of water.
Peak water usage occurs each day during the early morning hours. Residents, businesses and industrial customers are encouraged to limit their water usage, particularly between 6 and 10 a.m. in the morning.
