The Greenburgh Town Board will vote this Wednesday on a home rule request asking the NY State Legislature to create a 3rd part time Town Justice position. If the State Legislature approves such a request (which has the support of NY State Supreme Court Administrative Judge Frank Nicolai and many court observers) and if the Governor signs the legislation there will be an election for the position this November. The new Justice will take office on January 1, 2005. I believe that the creation of this position will more than pay for itself –probably generate additional revenue for the town – there has been a very big backlog in the courts --- some tickets have not been processed for years.
