Release Date: September 12, 2012

WANTED: VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR ANNUAL VETERANS APPRECIATION BARBEQUE ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH FROM 5 PM TO 8 PM
The town is hosting our third annual veterans appreciation barbeque on Thursday, September 27th. Close to 300 veterans and their families have already sent in their RSVPs – advising us that they plan to attend this event. United States Congresswoman Nita Lowey will attend –and a ranking official of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs is expected to fly in from Washington.  West Point is sending an honor guard to the barbeque.  The barbeque is being sponsored by Shoprite.
Alan Hochberg & Steve Wittenberg have devoted substantial time producing veterans living history interviews of veterans of World War II and the Korean conflict. They have completed about 90 interviews with veterans so far. We will be presenting the tapes to the federal government –the half hour interviews will be archived at the United States Library of Congress.

Many of the veterans are elderly. We are looking for volunteers who will help serve food for the veterans and help them enjoy the barbeque. If you are interested in helping out please contact Judith Beville at townclerk@greenburghny.com or call her at 993 1504. My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com.
