CALLS OFFERED TO FAMILIES WITH SOLDIERS OVERSEAS
Release Date: July 23, 2004

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner announced that the Town of Greenburgh will be initiating a new service for members of the community who have friends, loved ones in the military. The program to be called “FREEDOM CALLS” will allow families of soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistanor elsewhere to video conference with each other.  This could be an important quality of life enhancement for families who have family members serving overseas. Soldiers will have the opportunity to see their children on video. Soldiers with new borns may see their children for the first time.

This is a great gesture on the part of the town to support the troops---whether one agrees or disagrees with the war. Inasmuch as the video conferencing system uses the internet the calls won’t cost the town anything. Doing this will require some town resources in terms of personnel but Feiner said that he will enlist town employees to volunteer their services.

The town of Greenburghrecently acquired a video conferencing system that will be used by town staff and members of the community. FREEDOM CALLS will be offered to familes, friends and loved ones who wish to communicate with members of the military serving overseas at no cost.
