Representatives of MadisonSquareGardenappeared before Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feinerand the members of the Town Board on Tuesday requesting permission to build a helicopter landing area at their existing Greenburgh sports facility—which is used to train the NY Knicks, Rangers and Libertyteams. The Greenburgh facility is 120,000 square feet located on 15.6 acres. MadisonSquareGardenrepresentatives are seeking to use the helicopter landing area no more than 3 times per week. They are not requesting fuel or maintenance facilities. And, are willing to agree to conditions imposed by the Town Board.

The Westchester County Police Commissioner welcomes the implementation and availability of the proposed MSG heliport for county emergency purposes and claims that this would provide important additional availability to county police near the hospital, major roads and Greenburgh. The NY State Police has expressed interest in using the heli-stop on a limited basis in emergency situations.  They claim that the site would be an ideal staging area in the event of a significant disaster striking the community or region. MSG also has indicated to Supervisor Feiner that they would be willing to give the Greenburgh Police access to the landing area (and helicopter) if there is a local emergency.

The Greenburgh Town Board will be reviewing the proposal in the coming months.
