PROJECT WOOF SEEKS DOG PARK

One of the most successful recreation events in Greenburgh history took place on September 12th --2 of the lower pools at town park were open to dogs. Hundreds of people attended the dog swim. Many Greenburgh residents told Supervisor Paul Feiner that they had more fun at this event than they have had in years. Proud dog owners marvelled at the swimming ability of their large and small dogs. (photo of the event will be posted on our web site this week)
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said that the event highlights the need for a dog park in Greenburgh. One of my goals for 2005 will be to set up a dog park. The probable location: unused land at AF Veteran Park.
A citizens group, called PROJECT WOOF, presented Supervisor Feiner with a petition calling for a safe, legal and enclosed dog runs and dog parks where friendly, well behaved puppies and dogs can play together off leash. Benefits of a dog park include: Puppies and adult dogs have a safe enclosed place to play...enclosed play areas prevent off leash dogs from infringing on the rights of other community residents and park users such as joggers, small children and those who may be feaful of dogs...A well exercised dog is a happier and healthier dog...an exercised dog makes a better next door neighbor than an under exercised dog...puppies and dogs which exercise by playing in a dog park are less likely to create a nuisance, bark excessively, destroy property, jump on passers by, etc.... Dog runs bring people together and create a greater sense of community.
