In 2012 there were 65 accidents on Jackson Ave
This Monday evening, at 7 PM, the Westchester County Board of Legislators will consider a resolution requesting state legislation that will enable the town to straighten out an S curve along Jackson Ave (near Jackson and N Sprain Road). Once the road is straightened out it will be much safer for residents and the many motorists who use Jackson Ave to get to Costco, Stew Leonards, Home Depot and Ridge Hill. The town, villages of Ardsley & Hastings received $5 million after the Ridge Hill lawsuit settlement to make safety improvements on roads impacted by the Ridge Hill development. This safety improvement is one of the most important safety initiatives that are being pursued.
Westchester County Legislator Mary Jane Shimsky has been involved in the effort to help make this road safer. She has encouraged me to highlight the importance of the resolution being considered by the county this Monday evening. I will speak at the meeting of the Legislature at 7 PM on Monday evening. The Westchester County Legislature meets at 148 Martine Ave (8th floor), White Plains. If you have the time and can join us at the meeting it would be appreciated. The following was sent to me by Legislator Shimsky. We appreciate your help with this matter. We also hope that County Executive Rob Astorino will support this very important safety initiative.
Once the State provides us with legislation, the Board can then consider and pass a Home Rule resolution, which is required for the State to proceed. Once the State approves the alienation, the County will cede the roughly four tenths of an acre in question to the Town (the Town will give the County the same amount of parkland elsewhere in the Town of Greenburgh as consideration); and the process for commencing work can begin.
It is my understanding that, once Monday night's resolution is passed, the Town will begin the environmental review (SEQRA) process on a parallel track with the parkland alienation legislation.
