GREENBURGH BD VOTES FOR CABLE TV COMPETITION
Release Date: November 23, 2004

I am pleased to report that the Greenburgh Town Board unanimously approved a resolution authorizing me to take action steps with the Public Service Commission so that Verizon can offer Greenburgh residents competitive cable TV services. Currently, Greenburgh is served by only by Cablevision. Once the Public Service Commission authorizes the town to waive part 594, we will be able to begin negotiations with Verizon. They, like cablevision, will have a franchise agreement with the town.  It’s my hope that competition with Cablevision can begin by the summer of 2005.  Competition will result in better service, fewer rate increases, better programming. And, the town will receive additional revenue as well!  So, it’s a win-win-win for everyone.  Early in my career as a Legislator and as Town Supervisor I wrote to every cable TV company in Americaseeking competition. Although we got close in the early 1990s, the competition never materialized. So, this is a dream come true for me.
