East Hartsdale Underground Fire
Release Date: February 27, 2014

I received the following update from Police Chief Chris McNerney about an underground transformer fire on E Hartsdale Ave. I am heading over to E Hartsdale Ave shortly and will provide residents with updates until power is restored.

Getting around E Hartsdale Ave will be difficult until power is restored.

PAUL FEINER

FROM THE POLICE CHIEF....We are currently working with the Hartsdale Fire Department and Con Edison battling an underground fire in the area of 100 East Hartsdale Avenue. Several manhole covers were blown open during initial explosions and there is concern of additional as the fire spreads. Luckily we have no reported injuries. We have power outages reported from 160 East Hartsdale Avenue to Central Avenue. We are working to identify and treat residents that are on life sustaining equipment and we have made arrangements to transport residents to the community center and multi purpose center.
East Hartsdale Avenue is closed from station plaza to central avenue.
There is no timeline for restoration of power as con Edison is working to shut off electric and gas. At the moment, the fire department is still working to put out the fire.
