For over 5 years I have organized a job club--helping the unemployed find work. I send out frequent job updates to those who are seeking employment...have created a www.linkedin.com (greenburgh jobs group). We sponsor special forums. And, have had many successes helping people find employment. Tomorrow evening (June 10) we're focusing on unemployed college graduates. In recent years many parents (including parents of Ivy League graduates) have contacted me complaining--they spent over a quarter of a million dollars on their son or daughters education. And--their son/daughter is now unemployed, underemployed or working for free (or nearly for free as an unpaid intern). I have asked Elizabeth Skovron, a student intern and an honors student at SUNY Albany to devote the summer--trying to help unemployed graduates strategize on a plan to find great employment opportunities. FIRST MEETING: TOMORROW EVENING AT 7:30 PM College students' and recent graduates have taken all of the correct steps towards success. The problem, however, is that many of us are dropped after graduation. There is a broken bridge between college and the professional world. We are "promised" that if we do everything the right way, there will be a job available. There isn't a clear transition between college and entering the professional world; especially when the unemployment rates for college graduates continue to increase. Together we can generate ideas. Join me Tuesday, June 10, 7:30PM at the Greenburgh Town Hall to brainstorm solutions about this prevalent problem. Please email eskovron@albany.edu for further information.
