New sanitation truck to expand service to Edgemont, mayfair acres, manors.
Release Date: May 03, 2015

Last year the town purchased a new sanitation truck (one arm bandit) that uses an automated hand (not a human) to pick up garbage. The truck uses one employee, not three and helps the town save money--fewer injuries and disability related claims. We will reduce the workforce by attrition.   The truck has been used to pick up garbage at Valimar, Winding Ridge and in the Poet's Corner section of town. These trucks are used all over the country. White Plains and Harrison has also been purchased similar trucks.

The second truck is now in our possession and we will be expanding the service in June to more homes. Parts of Edgemont, some streets in  Mayfair Acres, Taylor Road, and the Manors the area to the east of  Knollwood Road will be served by the new truck. We are in the process of notifying the residents that will be served by the new trucks.  The town plans to purchase a third truck --funding is included in the capital budget.  The town supplies free garbage cans to residents--which will be delivered about a week before the new trucks start their service.

Yesterday the news media mentioned an unfortunate incident involving a town employee who made a racist statement on his facebook post. The employee is being disciplined.

I have asked the newly formed Greenburgh Human Rights Committee to help the town come up with a policy and to also evaluate how we handled this matter. I'm interested in hearing their thoughts (and yours) about the criteria we should use to set punishments, how we should deal with these kind of issues during our labor contract negotiations, etc...   I am also reaching out to the local clergy seeking their input.
