UPDATE: PROGRESS BEING MADE TO CONNECT THE NORTH AND SOUTH COUNTY TRAILWAYS...In recent years efforts have progressed to connect the North & South County trailways. I reached out to the County Executive's office and received the following update. The project design phase is 90% complete and the county is awaiting a new lease from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to construct and operate the portion of the South and North County Trailways that is located on state property. Once that lease is received, the county's planning department will request bond authorization from the board of legislators to construct the missing segment. The planning department is also awaiting the results of a soil study which will specify how soils on and offsite are to be addressed. This effort will require cooperation from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). It is hoped construction will begin in the spring of 2016. A big quality of life enhancement for cyclists and runners who enjoy both trails.
The Greenburgh school district is working hard trying to become a world class school district. And, has initiated some innovative programs--including participation in the national spelling bee competition. I am pleased to share a story that aired on Verizon News 1 about our school district.
