FAIRVIEW FIRE DEPT TO HOST FIRE PREVENTION DAY TOMORROW
Release Date: October 02, 2015

The Town of Mamaroneck is hosting a charrette on the topic of PAY AS YOU THROW tomorrow, October 3 from 10 AM to 12:30 pm at the VFW Building, 1288 Boston Post Road, Larchmont. I learned of the meeting yesterday at an executive committee meeting of the Westchester Municipal Officials Association.
Pay as you throw changes the way taxpayers pay for garbage pickup. Instead of everyone paying a flat fee (via their taxes) for garbage collection – those who use more garbage pay more than those who recycle, compost and havemuch less garbage. A link to a Wikipedia story is posted below.
The town of Greenburgh is not considering a change to pay as you throw at this time.  However- some residents have contacted me in the past suggesting that the community at least have a discussion on the benefits and negatives of the concept. It’s an interesting approach to taxes.   What do you think?
If you want to attend the Mamaroneck discussion e mail gferris@townofmamaroneck.org
