Release Date: February 09, 2017

OUR SNOW ANGEL PROGRAM HELPS THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED

Jack Fischer, who has chaired our Disabled Advisory Committee, volunteered to coordinate our snow angel program this winter. I formed the snow angel program over 25 years ago. Volunteers help shovel driveways of senior citizens and disabled residents. Over the years they have helped clear paths for residents who are home bound--worried that emergency personnel or meals and wheels providers would not be able to get to their homes. Others who have received help just want to have the ability to get out of their home.

If you can't find someone to clear your driveway and are elderly or disabled please e mail Jack Fischer at gdac.ny@verizon.net.  If you are willing to join the snow angels and volunteer please advise. I have volunteered for the program over the years and find the experience to be very rewarding --with the added benefit of good exercise (I don't have a snow blower).

We have a limited number of volunteers. In the past we have not always been able to provide same day help to everyone who has called.

PS Just spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Public Works. Rich Fon said that our crews are out working hard. We anticipate as much as 14 inches of snow.  And expect the snow to continue coming down into the afternoon hours. Roads are still very slippery. Stay inside if you can.
