Release Date: July 12, 2017

Volunteer Drivers Needed

Can you spare a little time to make a difference in the life of an older adult?

RideConnect, a program of Family Services of Westchester, is an information, referral, and volunteer transportation program for older adults, age 60+, who can no longer drive. We are seeking volunteer drivers who are willing to provide occasional rides to our older adult neighbors. These rides enable our clients to remain active in their communities and to continue to lead fulfilling lives. Rides are typically to medical and dental appointments, grocery shopping and other errands. Please consider giving the gift of mobility and independence. For more information, please call Marietta C. Manoni at (914) 242-7433 or email to: mmanoni@fsw.org

Recently a resident spoke to me about a problem an elderly friend of hers had getting to the library.

SMALL PROBLEMS ARE BIG PROBLEMS AND NEED TO ALSO BE ADDRESSED- library to be more disabled accessible

Recently, I was talking to a resident at a local supermarket. She mentioned that an elderly resident who enjoys the Greenburgh Library has a difficult time getting  into the library when she is dropped off at the entrance, near the circle. There are no curb cuts at the entrance. She uses a walker.  I spoke with the Commissioner of Public Works, Victor Carosi. Our engineers are currently working out the details and we hope to construct the curb cut out at the library in the next month or so.

We welcome your suggestions on small and major quality of life concerns.  And will try to be responsive.   Earlier this year the Town Board appropriated funds to create more parking at the library for library patrons.

PAUL FEINER

Dear Supervisor Feiner,

I understand that you will try to arrange for a curb cutout at the Library.

This would be tremendously helpful to people like me who are dependent on a walker and find use of the very fine Library very difficult.
