EXTREME HEAT ALERT--we are going to try to open pool tomorrow & Wed from 4-7 PM
Release Date: September 04, 2018

I spent a few hours at the AF Veteran town pool this afternoon, chatting with residents. The major issue people talked to me about: pool patrons asked that the pool be open tomorrow and Wednesday. We anticipate unusual extreme heat and I agree that the pool should be open.  The problem: the pool was scheduled to close for the season on Labor Day (today), it's difficult to get lifeguards (who are starting school tomorrow). And--the county requires lifeguards to be supervised.

I just spoke with Commissioner Gerry Byrne. Also spoke with Deputy Commissioner Joe Lucasey. Both are trying very hard to find a way to open the pool tomorrow and Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Because the lifeguards we hire are in school we can't open earlier.  It's not definite as of yet, but they are trying hard to find the lifeguards and supervisors. We will post a decision by noon tomorrow on www.greenburghny.com.  I'm hoping for good news.  If the pool is open we probably will only be able to open up the lap pool --possibly the interactive kiddy pool. It's hard to find qualified lifeguards at the last minute. I think that opening up at least one of the pools is better than nothing.

Thanks for your understanding. And--stay cool!

PAUL FEINER
