A former Ardsley HS student who took advantage of the Kids Short Story Connection
Release Date: September 30, 2018

Sarah Bracey White, who is the director of the Greenburgh Arts and Culture Committee, has devoted many hours --trying to motivate young people to appreciate the arts. One of the graduates of a program she runs "the Kids Short Story Connection" is now showing a play on Broadway. This is what Jan Rosenberg has to say about Sarah Bracey White:

"Because no one ever discouraged that shy little girl from writing, she’s a playwright today. So blessed to know @sarahbracey.white & share my work with her ??. Jan Rosenberg, Ardsley HS, 2007"

Sarah Bracey White is just one of many town leaders who have worked hard working with young people-encouraging them to achieve greatness.  We have a great internship program that offers young people the opportunity to experience government. Students enrolled in the Xposure after school program were nominated over a year ago for two EMMY awards for their shows. Many students have hosted and produced their own cable TV shows and Public Service announcements, working with our cable TV team.  Our summer police youth camp has encouraged some of the graduates to go into law enforcement as a career (two of our police officers are graduates).  The Theodore Young Community Center has numerous programs that have helped many excel in their careers.  After I took office as Town Supervisor a young man, Phil Weiser, headed my transition team before going to law school. He is now the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Colorado and a former law clerk for US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  I can go on and on!

Many people move to Greenburgh because of our great  schools. The town has tried to complement the programs the schools offer by providing our youth with additional opportunities to learn, interact with community leaders and to push themselves to become great successes in life.

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater will present What's Wrong With You, a new play by Jan Rosenberg that will run from September 20-October 6, 2018. Artistic Director Tom Oppenheim says that "Jan Rosenberg is a uniquely gifted writer. Hearing her plays is like watching an accident as it happens. Her work is spontaneous, raw, real and you cannot look away. Her additional focus on young people, rarely represented in theater, gives insight and voice to the rising generation. Jan is a compelling writer and I could not be more proud to be part of What's Wrong With You."

“What's Wrong With You” tells the story of teenagers Caden and Mae who have a lot of pain, but no bruises to show for it. So, they play a dangerous game to teach those that hurt them a lesson. But in a world where everyone's glued to their phones and social media, how far will they go to demand attention before someone truly gets hurt?

Jan Rosenberg is the 2018 Harold Clurman Playwrights Division Writer-in Residence. The Division aims to find the best emerging playwrights and support them holistically in their process. Rosenberg rose to the top of the division's search for a female playwright that received nearly 200 submissions.  Her plays include What's Wrong With YouHow To Destroy An American Girl DollNever Have I EverA Little Piece Of YouDo Not Leave Unattended, Janie Wants A Dogand The Discarded, among others. She has thrice been nominated as a semi-finalist for the Eugene O'Neil Playwright Conference, as well as for the Playwrights Realm Writing Fellowship. Her plays have been produced by Barefoot Theater Company, Less Than Rent, Vertigo Theater, LAByrinth Theater, ESPA*Drills at Primary Stages, Wide Eyed Productions, The Cherry Lane, NY Madness, The 1 Minute Play Festival, The New Works Festival, The Farm Theater, and more.

Jan posted this message about her years in The Kids Short Story Connection on Facebook today under a photo we took at the theater: “I first met Sarah when I was 11 and began taking fiction workshops at Kids Short Story Connection. She put me in an advanced fiction class with my mentor, the late Earl Coleman. I was treated with the upmost respect, encouragement, and kindness for 8 years, after which I studied Creative Writing in college. Because no one ever discouraged that shy little girl from writing, she’s a playwright today. So blessed to know @sarahbracey.white & share my work with her https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/f6c/1/16/2764.png??. Jan Rosenberg, Ardsley HS, 2007
