Release Date: January 13, 2019

Most people can't afford to miss a paycheck. Sadly, the federal government s shutdown- now in its 23rd day, is impacting at least 800,000 federal employees who are being furloughed or working without pay because President Trump and Congress cannot reach an agreement to reopen the government Contractors are also being impacted by the shutdown.

GREENBURGH -WE WANT TO HELP OUR NEIGHBORS WHO ARE FACING FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS DUE TO FEDERAL SHUTDOWN

Greenburgh has always taken pride in having an active community that likes to help those who are facing difficult times. If you or family members are facing financial problems or hardships as a result of the federal shutdown please advise. I would like to organize a community effort to help out.  If you would like to help neighbors who are impacted by the shutdown also let me know.  So far no federal employee has contacted me. Not sure how many people will need help but want the community to know we are here for you and want to help you overcome the problems if you need our help.

WE HAVE A CARING COMMUNITY--THIS IS AN E MAIL I RECEIVED FROM A RESIDENT EARLIER TODAY...
"Second, the current partial Federal shutdown is hurting lots of families.  I am sure that in our community we have some Federal employees who are out of work and not receiving a paycheck.  My wife and I would like to help these people.  Does the town or county have some program to assist?  One way that we thought was to buy a weeks worth of groceries for the family.  This is something I would like to do. I think others would like to do the same.  How to identify them or have them let us know about their situation is a challenge.  Do you know of any such program or could you start such a program to assist?  These are fellow Americans and we must help them.  They are having trouble paying rent, mortgage and even putting food on the table for their families."

WE WON'T EMBARRASS THOSE SEEKING HELP....
Although we will give priority to Greenburgh residents - if a family member or friend in another community is suffering because of the federal shutdown - let me know and we can publicize their situation.  We will not embarrass those seeking help. I can describe the situation without releasing their names or contact info and than match donors with those seeking help.

I believe that if every community, government body did something similar - the focus will be on the American citizens suffering  and that the pressure will increase to get the government functioning again.
