Town Board Adopts Information and Security Breach Notification Policy

The Town Board of the Town of Greenburgh at its April 6, 2006, meeting adopted a policy, called the “Town of Greenburgh Information and Security Breach Notification Policy,” that ensures all affected persons will be informed by the town in the unlikely event private information in the town’s possession or control has been compromised or if there is a reasonable belief that there has been unauthorized disclosure of private information.

The adoption of this policy does not mean that there is a recognized weakness in the town’s information security measures.  All NYS agencies and municipalities that handle personal information have been mandated by state law to adopt a similar policy no later than April 6, 2006.  The Town Board in adopting the policy complied with that mandate and deadline.

Town Board members Supervisor Paul Feiner, Councilwoman Eddie Mae Barnes, Councilman Steve Bass, Councilwoman Diana Juettner and Councilman Francis Sheehan unanimously voted in favor of the policy.
