COUNTY BUSES SHOULD RESERVE FIRST ROW SEAT DEDICATED TO HONOR ROSA PARKS
Release Date: January 13, 2007

This Monday is Martin Luther King’s birthday. I am proposing that WestchesterCounty’s Department of Transportation and Liberty Bus Company do what is being done in Miamiand dedicate  a seat at the front of all buses in honor of Rosa Parks. A copy of a sticker placed on the Miamibuses can be seen below.

Rosa Parks stood up for freedom. She made people aware of the civil rights struggle every day of her life. She was an inspiration. Her act of protest jump started the civil rights movement.
In 1955 the bus that Rosa Parks was on was crowded. Rosa Parks was ordered to give up her seat to a white passenger. She remained seated. Her simple decision led to the disintegration of segregation in the south.

I believe that if WestchesterCountywould follow the lead of Miamiand place a dedication sticker on all buses that it will inspire more people to recall this significant act of courage and to reflect on the need to speak out when people are being treated unfairly or being discriminated against.
