SHOULD MICKEY'S HOT DOG STAND BE ALLOWED TO STAY OPEN ON JACKSON AVE
Release Date: February 01, 2007

For 78 years Mickey’s snack bar has been open for business on Jackson Ave. Mickey DiFate, a 96 year old founder, moved into an assisted living facility last year and wanted a family member to take over the business. The problem: Our current laws do not allow roadside vendors in residential neighborhoods. Once Mr. DiFate stopped working at the snack bar last year it was an illegal non conforming use. We haven’t received complaints from residents but we do have a law on the books. There is an article in the Journal News today about this (www.lohud.com).
Many people believe that this is a landmark –that hasn’t bothered anyone. Mr. DiFate and his family can apply for a variance and appear before the Zoning Board. I am inclined to support the variance and would appreciate your thoughts. Please visit: www.pfeiner.blogspot.com. Tell the town what you think.
