TOWN ISSUES SUMMONS TO PROPERTY OWNERS WHO DID NOT CLEAR SIDEWALKS
Release Date: March 19, 2007

Thought you  might be interested to know that on February 22, 2007the town issued 54 summonses to property owners who had neglected to clear their walkways of snow pursuant to Section 430-15 of the Town Code. They were required to pay a $175 fine

This is what happened on Feb 22nd:

Total Summonses: 54

Guilty Pleas & $175.00 Fines: 20

Adjournments Granted by Court: 28

Cases Dismissed: 6

I continue to believe that the current policy is not working – and that the town should assume responsibility for clearing snow on Ardsley Roadsidewalks and on other sidewalks leading to train stations, schools, bus stops. The issue is not the fines – the issue is the safety of our residents.

4 members of the Town Council issued a release recently indicating that they will be presenting the Town Boardwith a new sidewalk policy at the March 28th Town Boardmeeting. I had submitted a proposed sidewalk policy to the Town Boardlast summer. I hope that the new sidewalk policy draft will address the Ardsley Roadsidewalk snow problem.
