SHELL WITHDRAWS APPLICATION REGARDING HYDROGEN FUELING STATION AT 1000 CENTRAL PARK AVE
Release Date: April 18, 2007

I received a letter from Shell Hydrogen advising the town that they will be withdrawing their application before the Town Planning Board to install a hydrogen fuel station and visitor’s center at the existing Shell service station at 1000 Central Ave.  Shell indicated that they have decided to pursue other locations within Westchesterand NYS.

Shell indicated that fuel cell vehicle technology has advanced at a rapid pace and more fuel cell vehicles with longer ranges will be on roads sooner than originally expected. As a result, the proposed Central Park Avenuefacility in Greenburgh is no longer suitable because it would not be capable of accommodating the number of vehicles they now anticipate needing to serve. Additionally, many vehicle manufacturers are planning to begin operating their vehicles with hydrogen stored at higher pressure than that proposed for the project. To accommodate these changes Shell would have had to amend the application to reflect industry requirements for increased storage and dispensing at higher pressures.

Shell will soon break ground in partnership with the City of White Plains.
