Resolution proposed to waive flood-related building fees
Release Date: April 25, 2007

At yesterday’s work session, Councilmembers Eddie Mae Barnes, Steve Bass and Francis Sheehan authorized a resolution be placed on the agenda for tonight’s Town Board meeting (Wednesday, April 25) to waive certain fees for property and business owners who suffered damage due to last week’s storm.

The council members wrote the resolution to ensure all areas of the Town that had storm-related damage are covered, and significantly expanded the number of permits and inspections covered by the waiver provisions.

Councilwoman Juettner, who is out of town, and Supervisor Feiner, who had left the meeting, were not present for the discussion or the authorization and writing of the resolution, but are both on record as supporting the waiver of certain fees. The resolution will be voted on at this evening’s meeting.

FEMA has advised that business owners and residents that sustained losses can apply for federal assistance by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY – for the speech and hearing impaired). The numbers will be operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
